The mark consists of of a design element resembling a compass comprised of a circle containing the words "NATIONAL SKI PATROL" in block capital letters along the top and "MOUNTAIN TRAVEL & RESCUE" along the bottom. A second smaller circle is contained within the larger circle and contains an emergency cross at the center containing a mountain formation. The letters "N", "E", "S", "W" are positioned clockwise at the end of each cross hair. In the middle of the emergency cross containing the mountains are a pick axe and compass needle intersecting.
