The mark consists of a circular seal; an outer circle encircles the words "MIAMI CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY" with two small crosses at 4:00 o'clock and 8:00 o'clock positions; the inner circle has an escutcheon in the center; a cross divides the escutcheon in four parts: the upper left portion shows a palm tree; the upper right portion shows a trinity symbol; the lower right portion shows water; and the lower left portion shows a lit torch; in the center of the cross is an open book bearing the Latin words "Tolle Tolle Lege Lege"; the year "1946" is underneath the escutcheon and underneath the year is a banner with the Latin words "PRINCIPIUM SCIENTIAE"; two olive branches flank the escutcheon.
