The mark consists of the word "AVERNA" in red standard capital letters within a gold frame with a white background above a design of five gold coins which connects the gold frame to a yellow label outlined in the color gold, white and gold which is overlaid by a white label outlined in gold containing the words "AMARO SICILIANO" appearing in black letters with the exception of the first letter "A" in "AMARO" appearing with a red at the top and outlined in the color black and the letter "S" in the word "SICILIANO" appears in the color red and outlined in the color black. Below the letter "A" in the word "AMARO" appears two escutcheons. The first escutcheon has a gold crown, red draping with golden fringes, a white cross with red background with an attached design of a golden knocker, all encased in a white background with golden specks.
