The mark consists of a circular design bordered with red ribbons top and bottom, bordered with white trim. Inside the top ribbon are the silver words "31ST MARINE EXPEDITIONARY UNIT". Within the bottom ribbon are the silver words "CRISIS RESPONSE FORCE". On the left side of the circular design is a gray band with the words "STRIKE FROM" in white, and on the right side of the circular design is a gray band with the words "AIR-LAND-SEA" in white. The main portion of the circular design is a field of blue, with what looks like water bubbles and swirls in white. To the right in the field of blue appear three five-pointed stars in silver, white, and black. Dissecting the center of the field of blue is a trident, in silver and gray, around which is coiled a dragon, in gray and black, with red and black eyes. At the bottom of the trident is an eagle, globe and anchor design in black, silver, and white. Inside the mouth of the dragon is a skull in silver, white, and black.
