Experts advice that the best choice always is to register your TM with all classes.

But, sometimes it can be costly...

What classes do you specially recommend for an intenet based business? If only digital products and online membership services are sold?

Thank you!

I am registering a servicemark for a small chemical custom synthesis company.  We provide custom synthesis of chemicals for research and development purposes in medicines/pharmaceuticals.
I am confused as to what class this would be under: Class 1 for Chemicals, Class 5 for Pharmaceuticals or Class 42 for Development of pharmaceutical preparations and medicines.

Also is it necessary to register under all of these classes rather than just one?  What is the nee...

Greetings. Thanks to all the forum members -- it's been a great read.

My new company (less than 1 yr on sale) is ready to tm our brand name. I am a little unclear about classes and the purpose of multiple classes.

We sell cosmetic products, and our brand name is two words, "BRANDNAME MAKEUP". It is my understanding based on my readings, that if I register "BRANDNAME MAKEUP", then other makeup companies can not use this brand name. So far so good?

Hello, my questions concern the differences between the IC class descriptions in the TM Law section 6.1 and the descriptions of classes used in the actual TARR reports for individual trademarks.

There seem to be some discrepancies on how some software manufacturers trademarks fit into the classes they are in.

For example, I have seen a software company that has their trademark in IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038 and the description doesn't actually mention the type of software tha...

Hello,
I tried searching on this forum for an answer to no avail, and to browse to find my answer is too cumbersome as there are quite a few pages to browse through.
My question is if a company has a robot, and they registered and trademarked its robot as "Getta Robot". Then I come along and create a company called "Getta Robot" which makes lots of generic robots. The company trademarks its name under one trademark "Class". I then register my name under a d...

Assigning classes to the g/s in an appl?

In Trademark Registration    -  updated on 11/11/2009
I would appreciate some help from the learned ones on this forum.  In another legal blog, an attorney stated that assigning the goods and/or services ("g/s") in an application into one or more international classes ("ICs") is not required to obtain registration at the PTO.  I have NEVER seen that occur, but that's not to say that he isn't correct.  I just want to know if he is.  I am also concerned that the attorney who made the original request is rece...

I'm not an attorney but I just have a law hobby.

I have 2 questions below for this hypothetical situation:

Company A has the trademark "xyz" in classes 004, 0036, 0012, and 0019

I start a yoga camping club (non-commercial) that teaches people how to relax and ways to entertain themselves. The club is called "xyz" and does not have any products. The club has it's own website called abc123 dot com and uses the name of their club "xyz" on the we...

In Domain Names    -  updated on 11/11/2009
Will be filing for TM registration for a website.  (Domain name issues are not afoot here.)  Several possibilities for describing the website:
1.  The service of providing information in the field of ___ via the Internet.  Would I need to file in each field classification and pay separate filing fees?  E.g., furniture and housewares?
2.  Computer services, namely, providing on-line information in the field of ___ in class ___.  Same questions as above....

Do different trademark 'classes' matter?

In Domain Names    -  updated on 4/24/2010
I'm building a website and my planned domain name shows a trademark registered for it, in class 29. I think I would fall into class 41, or class 44. Do these classes of trademark allow me to keep my planned domain? Or does having a trademark registered cover all the classes? Can trademarks be the same, but used for different classes of goods or services? Complete Newbie, here. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

In International Trademarks    -  updated on 9/21/2010
Dear all, Would anyone have an idea how the US trademark classifications are defined? Within the 'Trademark categories' section there are the 45 INTERNATIONAL classes defined.... however, when examining a single trademark, trademarkia.com also reports US classifications, which seem to be more detailed. they are displayed at the botum of the information page attached to a trademark filing... what you see there is one international class, and then attached to this a number of US classi...
