The USPTO has eliminated the distinction between TEAS Plus (limited to pre-approved goods or services from the Trademark ID Manual) and TEAS Standard (allowing free-form descriptions). This change simplifies the application process.
In the past, the fees were: TEAS Plus is $250 per class of goods or services and TEAS Standard is $350 per class of goods or services. However, this has changed. The Trademark Office plans has replaced these application types with a base application fee of $350 per class.
Accurate filing is more important than ever. To streamline processes and reduce errors, the USPTO has introduced new surcharges: Insufficient information costs $100 per class. The application using the free-form text box instead of the Trademark ID Manual costs $200. Every additional group of 1000 characters after the first 1000 costs $200 per affected class.
For potential applicants looking to file with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), it’s worth taking note of the following price changes: The application fee has increased from $500 to $600 per class. The subsequent designation fee has risen from $500 to $600 per class.
In addition, the Statement of Use (SOU) has increased from $100 to $150 per class. The Amendment to Allege Use (AAU) has risen from $100 to $150 per class. For registered trademarks, post-registration maintenance fees has also climbed. Section 8 Declaration of Use has increased from $300 to $325 per class. Section 9 Renewal Application has risen from $225 to $325 per class.
Section 15 Declaration of Incontestability has increased from $200 to $250. Section 71 Declaration of Use (for international registrations) has risen from $225 to $325 per class. The WIPO Renewal Fee has increased from $300 to $325 per class.
