My husband and I both put the Smartride plugs in our vehicles. We put them in mid term of a 6 month policy and ended up having to keep them in for 6 months! My husband's vehicle (the cheaper one) showed numerous hard brakes and fast accelerations, but he didn't drive many miles. I, on the other hand, drive 1 1/2 miles each way to work and once a month 120 miles each way to my sisters, and had more mileage but none or very little (below the national average) of the violations of night time driving, hard brakes or accelerations. Husband ended up with 21% discount and me 19% discount. However, we didn't see that discount on our policy renewal. Every 6 months ours has gone up, up, up. Even a few dollars irritates me! We switched to Nationwide to SAVE money, and they are determined to raise rates every 6 mos, since they ONLY have 6 month premiums. And the Smartride, is a joke. The small print, very small print, tells you they only discount 4 things...collision, property damage, bodily injury and medical payments. Yet our next policy renewal didn't even show the discount I figured for these 4 things. The explanation I got from my agent was "THEY always find some way to get the money from you". I don't know why.

Miles driven should have no effect because if you are a safe driver you still will be a safe driver whether you drive 10 miles a day or 100 miles a day . Hard breaking come from a lot of situations like an emergency stop to avoid hitting something that came in your path and not your fault. You are driving a safe distance behind someone and they stop suddenly which will affect you on stoping.they should consider these factors.

I have not been pleased with this program at all!!! I installed the device in one of my cars on 1/9/15 and they told me I had to keep it in for 90 days. Well it is 7/21/15 and it is still in and after several phone calls they are now telling me I have to leave it in until 9/7/15. On top of that I was up to a 21% discount and it dropped to 18% when I didn't even drive the vehicle. How does that happen?? I am afraid to see what they will actually give me after it is all said and done after having it in my vehicle for 9 months. They tell me I have had to keep it in longer because I don't drive it much but my other vehicle I drive every day so I excpected to only have to keep it in for the 90 days that I was told originally but that again is not the case. This one will be in for 4 1/2 months, not to mention it took about 3 devices before they finally sent me the right one. This program to me has been more of a hassle than it is worth. Can't wait to see how much discount I will get after the months and months of headaches that I have had.

This system and the people behind it are frauds. You will NEVER get the full 30% as they will ALWAYS find a way to knock it down. The customer service department is not helpful at all and they will give you runaround if you ask why your discount is so low. Oh and whatever you do, do not get stuck in the snow because THAT will count against you too!!!!! The meter on the website is not accurate at all, you will believe that you are doing well and at the completion you will get nothing and when you ask about the meter, the response will be that it is not accurate!! Well why have it on there? I was very careful with my driving and checked my status on a daily basis, I should have gotten 25% and instead they come up with a reason to give me 12%. Stay away.
