Frequently Asked Questions
What can be patented?
Patents can be granted for a variety of inventions, including new and useful processes, machines, articles of manufacture, compositions of matter, and improvements to existing inventions.
To be eligible for a patent, an invention must be novel, non-obvious, and useful. This means it must be new and not previously known, not an evident solution or modification to someone skilled in the field, and must have a practical application.
However, certain categories like abstract ideas, natural phenomena, and laws of nature are not patentable.
