Frequently Asked Questions
What steps should be followed to check the availability of an LLC name in Oregon?
To check the availability of an LLC name in Oregon, you need to follow a series of steps. Start by visiting the Oregon Business Registry search website. Choose the option for Business Name Availability Check and submit the name of your LLC. Use the search tool to run two searches. The first should be an “Exact words in any order” search, followed by an “Extended search” option. This second search should use a part of your LLC name, not the entire name, to show all Oregon business entities with similar names. Avoid including designators, apostrophes, commas, periods, and other punctuation marks in your search. Interpreting the search results is crucial. If you see business names that are similar but not identical to your desired name, you can use your chosen LLC name. If the message “Your search returned no business entity names” appears, your chosen name is unique and can be used in Oregon. However, if you find a business name identical to your preferred LLC name, you will need to select a new name. If your chosen name is too similar to an existing business, the State of Oregon will reject your application.
