Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Consular Electronic Applications Center (CEAC)?

The Consular Electronic Applications Center (CEAC) serves a crucial role in the U.S. visa application process. It is an online platform that allows foreign individuals and their legal representatives to monitor the status of their U.S. visa applications. The CEAC system is also used to make payments for applications, submit and check files and documents, such as the DS-160 and DS-260 forms. The CEAC visa status check site is a global service, accessible from anywhere, allowing applicants of immigrant and nonimmigrant visas to track the progress of their case. All petitions are in the database, regardless of where they originated. The CEAC system provides updates on the petition at any time of the day. From September 3, 2013, all individuals have to file an immigration petition to the U.S. Department of State (DOS) using the DS-260 and DS-261 forms online. The CEAC visa status check service only covers applications made during the past 12 months.
