Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DS-260 form used for in the CEAC visa application process?

The DS-260 form, also known as the Online Immigrant Visa Application & Alien Registration, is a crucial part of the Consular Electronic Applications Center (CEAC) visa application process. This form is used by foreign individuals who are applying for a U.S. visa. It is submitted online through the CEAC system, which is linked to the U.S. Department of State (DOS). The DS-260 form is used to provide necessary information about the applicant, such as personal details, contact information, and immigration history. Once the form is submitted and the application is confirmed, the barcode on the DS-260 form can be used to track the progress of the visa application. This allows applicants to get updates on their petition at any time of the day. From September 3, 2013, all individuals have been required to file an immigration petition to the U.S. DOS using the DS-260 form. The CEAC visa status check service only covers applications made during the past 12 months. The status of the DS-260 form may appear as "At NVC" if the U.S. authority has not yet opened the case or if the DS-260 form has not been submitted yet.
