What is the Business & Specialty Tax Line and when is it available?

The Business & Specialty Tax Line is a service provided by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to handle requests for replacements of lost or misplaced Employer Identification Number (EIN) confirmation letters. This service is available from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. The contact number for this service is (800) 829-4933. When you contact the IRS through this line, you will need to verify your identity for security reasons. You may be asked to provide your name and position within the company, your EIN, the type of income tax form you file for the business, and the name and address of the LLC. Once your identity is verified, the representative will look up your number and send the confirmation letter replacement immediately. There is no charge for this service. If you need the confirmation urgently, you can also contact your bank or accountant, who may have kept a copy of your original Tax ID certificate. However, the IRS does not offer online verification to protect against fraudulent conduct. If you initially completed your EIN application online, you could check your email's inbox or archive folder for the confirmation email the IRS would have sent when your EIN was first issued.
