Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Certificate of Good Standing required for registering a foreign non-profit in Michigan?
Yes, a Certificate of Good Standing is indeed required for registering a foreign non-profit in Michigan. This certificate, completed by your registered agent from the state where your original business is registered, must have been created within the 30 days prior to filing. This is a crucial part of the registration process, as outlined in the Foreign Non-Profit in Michigan Registration FAQs. In addition to the Certificate of Good Standing, you will also need a Certificate of Authority to Transact Business or Conduct Affairs in Michigan. This can be obtained from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Corporation Division. The application for this certificate can be submitted via fax or mail and requires a fee of $20. Once your application is submitted and approved, you will be given a file number by the Bureau of Commercial Services for your organization. This six-digit number needs to be entered on any subsequent documents sent to Michigan LARA.
