(1) - Foster pluralist societies worldwide in order to accelerate and widen the benefits of development and promote human security; propagate and grow pluralism as a value and promote pluralistic practices among individuals, organizations, communities, societies and states; deepen global understanding and appreciation of the benefits that accrue from respect for human differences, including but not limited to differences of faith, religious belief, ethnicity, language, history, perspective, and thought; promote pluralism as an ethical, intellectual and institutional pillar of good governance, social justice, economic opportunity, unfettered cultural expression, and religious freedom; encourage and strengthen the capacity of all elements of society to work collaboratively to mediate social harmony, promote diversity, manage differences, and guarantee equality; support the efforts of societies to harness constitutional, judicial, institutional and other instruments or mechanisms to promote and protect the practice of pluralism; document, learn from, and share the good practices of state and non-state actors in pluralist societies such as in Canada and elsewhere that other societies can use to become more pluralistic; undertake and support research, publish and disseminate studies, and provide on-going and systematic access to information about the benefits of pluralism and how to foster pluralist societies; develop, provide and support educational programs and initiatives at all levels, in formal and non-formal settings, to inculcate pluralism as a social norm and increase the vigour of pluralist societies; provide appropriate recognition and acknowledgement of exemplary individuals, communities, organizations, societies, and states for efforts to understand, promote or practice pluralism; mobilize human and financial resources, build partnerships with governments and non-state actors, and create mechanisms to support the promotion of pluralism; develop constituencies of advocates for pluralism in Canada and other countries who work together in an organized way either as individuals or through chapters and networks of organizations to promote the above.
