Caitlyn Jenner has taken the preemptive move to protect the use of her name as she contemplates starting a cosmetic line, according to TMZ.com.
The entertainment media site has learned that Jenner recently filed a trademark application which, if approved, would allow Jenner to sue anyone who uses her name in connection with a similar enterprise. Jenner’s trademark would apply not only to makeup but also to fragrances, makeup remover, nail polish, and non-medicinal skin care products, TMZ reported.
Jenner has not said when she intends to start her business, but obtaining a trademark is a first step, TMZ stated, and it’s a crucial move to keep anyone from using her name.
Cosmetic entrepreneurship apparently runs in the family. Jenner’s daughter, Kylie, started a popular lipstick line called “lip kit,” a matte liquid, that quickly sold out initially causing distribution issues, TMZ reported.
Caitlyn is also interested in the beauty world because she values looking good, she told Time magazine. “One thing that has always been important for me, and it may seem very self-absorbed or whatever, is first of all your presentation of who you are,” Jenner said. “I think it’s much easier for a trans woman or a trans man who authentically kind of looks and plays the role. So what I call my presentation.”
